Siqalo Sports Tournament Returns to Unite Bethal, Davel and Morgenzon Through Soccer and Netball

Date:

Seriti Green invites local and regional media to attend the second annual Siqalo Sports Tournament, with women’s netball, community fan parks and grassroots sports development expanding the programme in 2026.

Bethal, Mpumalanga | 9 September 2026: Seriti Green will host the second annual Siqalo Sports Tournament on Saturday, 19 September 2026, bringing together players, coaches and communities from Bethal, Davel and Morgenzon for a full day of competitive soccer, women’s netball and community participation at Jim Van Tonder School in Bethal.

Local, regional, community and sports media are invited to attend and meet the people behind the tournament, including players, coaches, community representatives, sponsors and the teams competing for this year’s Siqalo soccer and netball titles.

Established by Seriti Green in 2025, Siqalo was created to encourage participation in sport, strengthen relationships between the three host communities surrounding the Ummbila Emoyeni Wind Energy Facility and create a positive platform for local sporting talent.

Following the success of the inaugural soccer tournament, Siqalo has expanded in 2026 to include women’s netball, increasing participation and creating a dedicated platform for women from the host communities to compete and showcase their sporting ability.

Four teams representing Bethal, Davel and Morgenzon will compete across the two sporting codes. The programme will include an opening ceremony, soccer and netball semi-finals, sponsor friendly matches, finals and a prize-giving ceremony recognising the tournament champions and individual Players of the Match.

The tournament has also been designed to create a legacy beyond match day. Participating soccer and netball teams will receive developmental sporting equipment, including playing kits, balls, bibs, pumps, cones and other resources to support future training and participation in organised sport.

Community participation will extend beyond the main venue through dedicated fan parks in Davel and Morgenzon, giving residents an opportunity to follow the action from within their own communities. The fan parks will include live tournament coverage, entertainment, music and catering.

Standard Bank, Absa and FNB are proud sponsors of the tournament. Standard Bank’s sponsorship includes the Davel Fan Park, while Absa is sponsoring the Morgenzon Fan Park, helping to enhance the experience for players, supporters and the broader community.

For Seriti Green, Siqalo forms part of its broader commitment to community development in Mpumalanga by creating opportunities for participation, strengthening local relationships and supporting grassroots sport.

Media attending the tournament will have access to a range of local stories, including the expansion of women’s participation through netball, youth and player development, local coaches and clubs, community rivalry between Bethal, Davel and Morgenzon, fan park participation and the longer-term development support being provided to participating teams.
