Air Mauritius Announces Winners Of This Year’s Travel Oscar Awards

Date:

Yesterday evening, Air Mauritius announced the winners of its annual Travel Oscar Awards, held at the Houghton Hotel in Johannesburg.

The annual Travel Oscar Awards recognise Air Mauritius’s partners, and their diligence. Thus, the theme for this evening’s awards was especially fitting – Follow your dreams; they know the way.

“Tonight is about the partners who have worked extremely hard… This year was a tough year and we witnessed commitment and partnership at its best,” said Carla da Silva, Air Mauritius Regional General Manager:  Africa and Latin America. It is this commitment and partnership that have contributed to the successes of both the airline and the Mauritius region – now a billion-rand operation.

The Awards recognised performance across a number of categories, including Marketing, Commitment, Groups, Growth, Corporate Business, and Retail Consortium.

Beachcomber Tours was awarded the Top Partner Award for 2019, having contributed significantly to the revenue growth of the airline. The Top Marketing Partner Award was bestowed on Travel Start. The Holiday Factory was recognised as the Top Commitment Partner to the airline.

“Without partnerships, like-minded organisations and peers, businesses do not grow and achieve great things. We are very grateful for the partnerships that help us achieve our value chain goals,” said da Silva.

Da Silva also noted that for aviation to be the catalyst for prosperity, borders must be open to people and to trade. “The more people are connected through flying, the greater the benefit to all people of the world,” she said.

For its part, Air Mauritius is committed to a superior flight experience for the traveller, through investment in fleet modernisation and technological advancement. “Air Mauritius is a four-star International Airline, carrying 1.7 million passengers in two new-generation aircrafts – the A350-900 and A330-900 Neo. Air Mauritius is the first airline, globally, to operate both of these aircraft simultaneously,” said da Silva. These aircraft emit lower carbon emissions – a significant benefit for the airline.
Air Mauritius also continues to invest in a number of corporate sustainability and social responsibility initiatives, such as its One Take-Off, One Tree programme as well as its partnership with the Reach For a Dream Foundation.

The airline’s strong focus on service and customer experience has earned da Silva and her team accolades and awards. “I am very excited to announce that Air Mauritius is working towards injecting new and additional capacity into Cape Town and Johannesburg, effective April 2020. We have established both Leisure and Corporate value propositions, offering more value for money so that travel becomes more accessible,” said da Silva.

“We continue to appeal to all our travel partners to support Air Mauritius, so that we can continue to grow in this region,” she said.

The Travel Oscar Awards herald a positive start to what is set to be a remarkable year – and decade – for the travel industry.
