JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) — MTN Business has signed a strategic partnership with the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) Gauteng Region, aimed at empowering the transport sector and fuelling inclusive economic growth.

The agreement was formalised at MTN’s Innovation Centre, followed by a community activation at the Wanderers Taxi Rank in Johannesburg.

The partnership positions SANTACO as an official reseller of MTN’s business solutions — including mobile data, ICT services, and enterprise connectivity tools — enabling taxi operators to diversify income streams, enhance service offerings, and strengthen their role in community economies.

MTN South Africa CEO Charles Molapisi said the collaboration reflects the company’s commitment to driving development through partnerships with critical sectors. “SANTACO is not only a transportation powerhouse, but it also represents community enterprise and resilience at scale,” he said. “We are activating new value chains and enabling township economies to thrive in the digital age.”

SANTACO Gauteng Chairperson Midday Mali welcomed the initiative, noting that digital tools and connectivity can uplift both operators and the communities they serve.

The initiative supports the pillars of South Africa’s National Development Plan 2030, particularly in infrastructure development, job creation, and inclusive growth. With more than 97% 4G coverage and expanding 5G infrastructure, MTN says it aims to ensure no South African is left behind, from urban centres to rural villages.

“Partnerships like this help bridge the digital divide and bring dignity and opportunity to communities across the country,” Molapisi added.
